Tikki Masala, Curry-ing on Through Adversity
Two immigrants took a risk in 2014, opening a restaurant in a glorified construction zone. As Jamaica Plain’s Arborway was renovated, the surrounding area was moved to gridlock. Tikki Masala overcame adversity in 2014 and did so again in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic because of the quality of their food.
Curries are a snowflake of a dish, no two are the same. This is especially true at Tikki Masala where mango curry, coconut and tikki masala are all options, at varying levels of spice. With blue cheese sauce on the side, there’s nothing to fear. It’s no traditional blue cheese either. We usually see blue cheese mixed with milk and sour cream to make dressing. There’s nothing wrong with that, but Tikki Masala uses a yogurt base. It’s fresh and cuts the curry wonderfully.
